The Schenlie’s is a newly formed Indie Folk duo consisting of Jake Joyce and Taylor Miles. While various instruments are introduced throughout their songs, primarily Jake is seen strumming the guitar and singing, while Taylor plays the violin and also sings.
Jake and Taylor began playing music together three years ago with their friends throughout high school. Both musicians had separate projects before starting a duo together. Jake has been hired for numerous events around Berks County, PA, including the post-game show at the Reading Fightin’ Phils, the West Reading Farmer’s Market as a featured guest with Matt Cullen of the Good Lovin’ Jam Band, and several bars and restaurants around the area. Jake was previously apart of a local band, The Odd Ones Out, who won the semi-finals of The Battle of the Bands at The Ritz in New Holland, PA, winning a recording session for their single, “Riptide”, at Prava Studios. Taylor has played for profit and non-profit events around Berks County, PA, and Cape May, NJ, including the weekly Happy Hour entertainment for Carney’s and the 2012 Singer-Songwriter Cape May Showcase at Cabana’s. She also played in the Reading Symphony Junior Strings Orchestra for five years, and continues to play classical violin at weddings.
In the summer of 2014, Jake and Taylor began writing and playing together as a duo, starting at their first gig at The MidDay Café in Reading, PA. Throughout the season, they could be seen frequently busking on the streets in Cape May, NJ.
The Schenlie’s explore many sounds within the indie and folk genres, while also preserving a love for improvisation.
