Jill is an oboist, English horn player, pianist, and composer who has written and released 4 recordings about the National Parks in the United States.

Her National Park music projects began after a visit to Glacier National Park. Upon her return home from a visit to this National Park in Montana, she began writing music at the piano about the magnificent scenery. This resulted in her 1st National Park recording, “Glacier Soundscapes,” which was favorably reviewed and received extensive airplay.

Jill began to present concerts with a video of images in Glacier that inspired the music. These concerts were performed by a pianist, guitarist, and Jill on the double reeds at colleges, art centers and churches.

The request for more visual material let to her decision to create a photo booklet that would be included with the CD packaging of her 2nd releases, “Zion and Bryce Canyon Soundscapes.”

Kathy Parsons of MAINLY PIANO wrote,”Zion and Bryce Canyon Soundscapes is a very personal and impressive tribute expressed in the universal language of music and photography.” The recording received considerable international airplay including Sirius/XM radio in the United States.

During the recording process of “Zion and Bryce Canyon Soundscapes,” engineer and co-producer, Corin Nelsen, suggested Jill explore the possibility of applying to be an Artist in Residence in a National Park.

jill-haley-mesa-verdeMesa Verde National Park invited Jill to be an Artist in Residence for 2 weeks. During this residency Jill lived in a hogan style building in the Park while she wrote the music. She was offered the opportunity to visit the sites in the Park after hours and record music while they were empty of visitors.

“Mesa Verde Soundscapes” was released in 2014 and won “Best Piano Album with Instrumentation” from the Zone Music Reporter which is an organization that tracks international airplay of instrumental music.

Steve Shepherd of ONE WORLD MUSIC wrote, “Mesa Verde Soundscapes is a musical vista of outstanding natural beauty; this is one album that everyone needs in their collection.”

The National Park Service is celebrating its centennial year in 2016.

Jill released “National Park Soundscapes” which is a collection of pieces about 12 different Parks and is dedicated to the National Park Service. The music highlights 12 Parks from Acadia to Zion and also includes a new piece that was written about Badlands National Park when Jill was an Artist in Residence there in 2015
4 of the pieces from “National Park Soundscapes” have been arranged for concert band and solo oboe/English horn by the Ringgold Band.

This National Park Suite was performed in April, 2016 by the Ringgold Band and Jill. The National Park Suite is also being arranged for orchestra and will be performed in the summer of 2016 by the Reading Pops Orchestra.

Jill was just offered an Artist in Residency in Glacier National Park in Montana for the month of October, 2016. This will be a wonderful opportunity for her to re-visit many of the places that inspired her 1st recording.

Jill also performs and records with One Alternative, a trio of 2 guitarists and oboist, whose members write and present original music fusing many different styles. She records and performs with Will Ackerman, the founder of Windham Hill records. He continues to invite Jill to create and record oboe and English horn parts on the recordings he produces at Imaginary Roads Studio.
